Stainless Steel 310S is an austenitic heat-resistant alloy that contains a very high concentration of nickel and chromium, making it superior to 304 and 309 stainless steel regarding strength and corrosion resistance. This material is designed to bear extreme temperatures as high as 1149°C, or 2100°F, which makes this material fit for high-temperature applications such as furnaces and heat exchangers, and thereby in power plants.
With an increased chromium content, 310S stainless steels are much more resistant to oxidation and corrosion than those found with 304 types and further ensure a broad resistance to the scalings that result from the attack of infrequent heat fluctuations. It also resists most oxidizing acids and is remarkably durable against general rusting and tarnishing. Heavy welded sections in 310S may require post-weld annealing for maximum corrosion resistance.
